I am fairly capable with computers and software, so your direction to a helpful resource would be appreciated if you don't know specifically how to address my problem.

I am new to Apple as of this past April and I am still adjusting from the PC world. However, many of my programs still need Windows and one on-line subscription requires Internet Explorer. Parallels and Windows 7 are installed on my MacBookPro.

Internet Explorer 8 stopped working when I upgraded Parallels from Version 5 to Version 6. IE8 gave me an error message and did not open. IE8 had worked just fine on Parallels 5. My inquiries to Parallels tech support have gone unanswered. Nor could find a solution on the Parallels website or the internet, in general. I downloaded and tried to install IE9 Beta from the Microsoft website hoping this new installation would solve my problem, but to no avail. Now I receive an error message "Internet Explorer did not finish installing". But, I am unable to finish its installation or remove it so I can start over.

    Any ideas??

Connection to Internet failed with Parallels 6

    Hi Dan247,

in Paralles 5, I used to config my network for Virtual Machine Windows 7 as shared and Internet Explorer 8 worked perfectly. Suddenly in Parallels 6 I got the answer that I had no connection, my IP was wrong and I could not surf the Net: I changed the Hardware config panel as in the image attached and everything works again: I am not expert, I do not know the reason, I just upgraded to Parallels 6 and re-installed Parallels Tools: has anybody ideas?

Anybody else having problems with Parallels 6?

To: eliogiovanni Thank you for taking the time to read my post and reply. I checked my configuration and it is identical to yours, except mine is in English:)

But, your post confirms that my problem experience is not unique. This should serve as a WARNING to anyone contemplating an upgrade to PARALLELS 6 that Internet Explorer may be compromised.

Unfortunately, I may have already taken wrong and irreversible steps in the process of trying to solve my problem.

Internet Explorer a complete bust in Parallels 6

I have yet to encounter benefits from this upgrade and still I use Parallels to test Explorer on my Mac Pro.

I have no issue with IE 8 on any of my virtual machines (XP, vista, 7, server 2008 R2) using Parallels Desktop 6, and nothing weird with these IE happened while upgrading from V5 to V6. In your virtual machine, though, you generally should not specify a specific interface. Better use "Default adapter" when using the "Bridged" mode. And speaking of that, you have to understand that in bridged mode your Windows VM is seen by your networking equipment as a distinct computer than your Mac. If your wireless access point or router or modem do filter out clients by their MAC address, the MAC address presented by your VM might very well be different than before and not accepted, blocking or severely impairing your VM ability to connect to the internet. On some configurations, using the mode "Shared network" may be easier, but generally "bridged" to the "Default adapter" offers the best experience, when the external infrastructure does not get in the way.
