Wow. Simply wow. I had Parallels 4. Went to 5. XP died. I reinstalled. While digging up for the XP disc, I found some old games that needed Win98. So I installed 98 as a new VM as well. All was good until, 4 hours and 30-odd resets later, there is no sound.

Is there a way I can get sound in Windows 98SE under P5? I have installed the RealTek AC'97 drivers and the attached software, but nothing has happened. I also have an Unknown PCI card and Unknown device in device manager.

Any help would truly be helpful and saved for later use.

I installed Windows 98SE in Parallels Desktop 6. I had to install the Realtek RTL8029AS network driver and run the Internet Connection Wizard before I could get network access. I'm not sure DHCP works. Then I had to install Internet Explorer 6 before I could use Windows Update. The virtual machine has no sound and graphics are fixed at 640x480 16 colors and I see artifacts whenever I use a menu. Are the graphics any better for you? What graphics adapter and driver are you using in your virtual machine? Mine says Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) using driver files VGA.DRV and vmm32.vxd (vdd.vxd).

There's a thread at http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=31494 that says the "Avance AC97 Audio" driver works but I couldn't get any sound after installing it. Maybe you'll have better luck with it.

I tried running Driver Genius to see if it can find some better drivers but it has a couple warnings while installing and it complains about the database file when I try to run it.
