I have my Macbook connected to my LAN at work via Ethernet. I run XP through Parallels for certain software. Although I can locate shared folders on XP, for some reason the only printer I can find is my home one, and I can't for the life of me set up the work printers in XP, even though they're all installed and working nicely on OSX. Any ideas?
Hello Dave, 1. In Mac OS X, open System Preferences -> Sharing -> Services and enable the Printer Sharing service. 2. Go to System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> Sharing and make sure that your printer is enabled in the "Share these printers with other computers" list. 3. Make sure that your printer is able to print from the Mac side (print a test page). 4. In Windows VM download and install Apple Bonjour for Windows - http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows.html 5. When Bonjour installation is complete, start Bonjour Printer Wizard on your Windows desktop. 6. Click Next. Select your printer from the Wizard's Shared Printers list and click Next. 7. You should select either Generic/Postscript driver for your printer or your printer particular model if it's available in the list. Hit Next. 8. Click Finish and try printing any document using the Bonjour printer. If Bonjour printer doesn't work after completing Bonjour wizard, do the following - : 1. Uninstall any native drivers for the printer from Windows you may have already installed. 2. Make sure you have selected Bonjour printer when issued print command. Windows may show you several printers available.
I have similar problem, so installed and ran Bonjour but no printers are listed in Shared Printers windows, although share printers is turned on in Mac Preferences. If it is relevant when I turn on the printer, which is usb attached to the Mac, it asks me whether it should be linked to the mac or virtual pc. For the purposes of this exercise I said Mac. Help this is doing my head in.
I am having a similar problem (Parallels 5.0.9344). However, one thing the OP did not mention, which I've observed here, is that all of my printers show up in the Devices>Printer Port 1>Printer menu. The printer I have set for default on the Mac side is checked. Same thing if I go into the Configuration window. It shows all of my printers in the menu and says my selected printer is connected. Yet none of these printers are visible to Windows XP. I'm 99% certain I was able to print to these printers some time ago (maybe in v4 of Parallels) without doing all this nonsense with Bonjour. Is this a new requirement to be able to print under v5? Also, do I need to change my firewall settings? When I set printers to share it says my firewall will block this. Thanks, Dennis
