Never used Parallels nor Windows before on my Macbook Pro.

I just installed Parallels 5 on Macbook Pro without any problems. Started Parallels Desktop. Clicked on New Windows Installation. I inserted new OEM XP Professional disk (with SP3) into Macbook as directed. Macbook will not read disk and ejects it after about ten seconds. Parallels says cannot detect install disk.

Did I miss a step? Is the XP disk the problem. (just opened a sealed disk) Do I need to do anything to the Macbook before it reads a Windows type disk?

    Any recommendations?

    Same Problem

I have the same problem with XP Pro, could not install with Parallel 5. Had an unused copy of XP home edition, so I used that and was able to install it without problem.

Seems weird. That should not be problem, there is nothing specific in Windows XP SP3 install disk. Ands the fact you cannot even mount it suggest something more hardware related. I had problem with my CD/DVD drive in previous MBP so I would not discount possibility of hardware issue of the Mac CD/DVD drive. Check with another disk to make sure.

Anyway, you can try to make iso file from this WInXP SP3 install disk (on Mac or on any PC) and if needed move that to the Mac. That can be mounted for installation instead of CD. And it will run faster.
