    Hi,

    I recently upgraded to Parallels 5. The majority of the time, the program will not even start - it simply shows a dialog in the middle of the screen saying "Parallels Desktop" and the animated Mac loading "dial". If I wait over 10 minutes, it will eventually stop and it is back to the "Unable to connect Parallels Service" that I experienced on version 4 over and over.

    It actually states this:

    Unable to connect to Parallels Service.

    Make sure that the prl_disp_service process is active and it is not blocked by Firewall. If the problem persists, contact the Parallels support team for assistance.

    Can somebody please give me some advice on how to correct this issue?

    Regards,

    Brian

    Hi sojoweb,

    Could you please post here a problem report ID taken after the error message appeared?

    To do so,
    1. Wait till "Unable to connect Parallels Service" message appears
    2. Select "Send Problem Report"
    3. Click "Send" and wait for a while until a confirmation with report ID pops up
    4. Post the problem report ID here.

    Thanks

    Probably solution when Parallels 5 is unable to start after update from Parallels 4

    Hello YitzchakF,

    In your case Parallels Service from previous version of Parallels Desktop ( 4.0.3540 [22 Nov 2008] ) have not stopped.

    To solve this problem you have two ways:
    I) Your problem can be solved after restart your Mac
    II) Or after next steps:
    open Terminal ( Finder: /Application/Utilites/Terminal )
    1) kill previous version of prl_disp_serivce
    type:
    $ sudo killall -9 prl_disp_service
    2) restart service:
    $ sudo launchctl start com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon
    3) start Parallels Desktop

    YitzchakF, keep us informed about it situation.
    Thanks!

    Hi sett,

    Hm..
    Very strange logs in report.

    Could you please attach installer logs to next post ?

    They located in:
    /var/log/install.log
    /private/var/log/install.log

    Thanks.

    howto:
    1) start Terminal ( open /Applications/Utilites by Finder )
    2) type in Terminal:
    $ sudo tar czf ~/Desktop/logs.tgz /var/log/install* /private/var/log/install*
    3) press on forum "Post Reply" and attach file 'logs.tgz' from your Mac Desktop.

    неужели я в прошлый раз что-то сделал не так? я специально очисти лог и заново установил программу, чтоб ничего лишнего не было... но коль вы настаиваете, прикладываю архив. (by translate.google.ru - surely the last time I did something wrong? I specifically cleanse log and re-installed the program, so nothing more was not ... but since you insist, put my archive.)

    Thanks for logs. But it doesn't help us.
    Very very strange situation.

    I think that by unknown reasons MAC OS X can not start Parallels Service.
    Try to start it manually:
    1) start Terminal ( open Terminal by Finder in /Applications/Utilites )

    2) type to start:
    $ sudo launchctl start com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon

    and type to show current state:
    $ sudo launchctl list | grep parallels
    $ ls -l /Library/Parallels/Parallels\ Service.app/Contents/MacOS/

    3) ( please story all output of command and add it to next post. )

    4) after that try to start PD5 again.

    5) If PD5 can't connect again - please make full logs from /var/logs to next post, we should understand and fix it problem.
    howto:
    a) type in Terminal
    $ sudo tar czf ~/Desktop/all-logs.tgz /var/log
    b) attach file all-logs.tgz from Desktop to forum post.

    6) and please send Problem Report any case.

    Thanks.

    Me too. This is killing me:) - ever since Snow Leopard

    Hello, I have received this since I upgraded to Snow Leopard:

    Unable to connect to Parallels Service.

    Make sure that the prl_disp_service process is active and it is not blocked by Firewall. If the problem persists, contact the Parallels support team for assistance.

    Here's my ID.

    Your problem report has been sent to the Parallels Support team with ID 2549681.

    I've tried the Terminal instructions but only get "command not found".

    Thank you, Jim

    Sergeyt - Working Now

    Hi Sergeyt, I'd had the same problem for two months and have tried to reinstall 3 times. The last time was about a month ago. I thought I'd try a reinstall again and low and behold...it works. Problem solved. I apologize for taking your time. But if anyone else has had the same problem as me, try re-installing. It's better than ever.

    It is likley permissions problem. Try to repair permissions, it is most recommended way because likely Parallels is not the only affected application.

    Or alternatively you can start the /Application/Utilities/Terminal and execute in it next commands

    sudo chown root:wheel /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon.plist
    sudo chmod 644 /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon.plist

    and then reboot the Mac OS

    Hi,

    Try to start the /Application/Utilities/Terminal and execute in it next commands

    sudo chown root:wheel /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon.plist
    sudo chmod 644 /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon.plist

    then reboot the Mac OS

    if this won't help, please start the terminal again, execute in it commands
    ls -al "/Library/Parallels/Parallels Service.app/Contents/Resources/ParallelsDispatcherService"
    ls -al /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.parallels.desktop.launchdaemon.plist

    and post here their output

    I have the same problem.... Parallels Desktop 5, Snow Leopard (up to date)
    Parallels problem report ID 5840998

    I've tried all the suggestions from the knowledge base about resetting the network settings, running Onyx and then resetting all file permissions.

    I have not yet tried the commands in this thread. I have been having this problem for a couple of weeks now.
    Prior to the error occurring, I did not make any changes to the computer.

    Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
