    Hi,

I managed to get FreeDOS working in Parallels, because my father uses an old DOS-based genealogy program which refused to work properly in a virtualized Windows XP setting (their previous computer ran XP and the software worked fine, but on the mac virtualisation does not do the job for XP).

Now, having FreeDOS is one, and of course I guess it would be possible to put the current data on a cd and copy them to the DOS VM. However, this is useless if I cannot get anything back to the mac, to backup. Burning CD's from a DOS command is something I would not even like to try!

USB support is limited, according to the FreeDOS site, but some drivers are not installed. I can't get it working, but this might also be due to me ;-)

My question: does anyone know a smooth way of communication between Mac and FreeDOS VM filesystems? The shared folder option is not available here (understandable), so I am looking for alternatives.

    Any comments would be appreciated!
(and yes, I am already looking for genealogy software on mac or webbased, but still do not want to force him to change software if not necessary)

    Regards,

    Pieter

I had the same problem. I thought I'd try loading an iso image as drive B: but ran out of time to play with it. Might work.

You can put FREEDOS on a virtual hard disk, along with the application and data. then backing it up is a matter of copying the .hdd file in the OSX environment.
