I have a full install disk for windows XP also the upgrade disk for Windows Vista home premium. My question is under Parallels 5 can I install Xp and then up grade to Vista?

I am getting a Mac Book Pro I7 w/8 gig ram and 500 gig HD 15.4 tomorrow and will be using Parallels mainly because of several Windows programs I use on my PC. My PC will be replacing my wife's older PC as I am swinging over to Mac. I have been using a Mac mini and I am in love with Mac.

you can do with Parallels pretty much anything you can do on a "real" PC. So if your upgrade disk tells you that you can use it to upgrade from XP to Vista home premium, you can do this in a Parallels VM as well. That's more a Windows question than a Parallels question.

I hope you're more in love with your wife than with the Mac :-D Good luck!
