I'm running 10.6.3 and 5.0.9344 hosting Windows 7 Home Premium. It seems the video driver for the latest Parallels Desktop Tools no longer functions. After upgrading to 9344 it prompted me to install the latest copy of Parallels Desktop Tools. I did not do this immediately, and the previous Parallels Desktop Tools has been working quite well. I finally got a chance to install and reboot the virtual machine yesterday and it no longer comes up. If I put it into Safe mode and remove just the Parallels video driver, then it comes up fine, but without the video support. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the tools several times with the same results. Any help is appreciated.
Anyone? Is there a way to disable the Parallel Tools automatic update so I don't trash all of my environments? The old version seems to be running fine. Also, is there any way to revert to the version of Parallels Tools from prior to the 9344 update?
Are you running a multimonitor setup? If so try disconnecting one monitor before you start Parallels.
I have three monitors, but I've tried running it on the go with my laptop as a standalone with the same result. Also, as mentioned before, my previous version of Parallels Tools continues to work fine in my other virtual machines and it worked in Windows 7 until I finally allowed it to perform the update. I have disabled the auto-run feature in my other environments to keep the new tools from installing there. Thanks for the idea, any more?
There is an update to the Parallels tools; while that addresses a different issue, it may help you, too?
Thanks for the heads up on the new Tools set. No luck though. . I did snapshot before hand though so I was able to rollback the attempt easy enough. I also have to add that the attempt to prevent Parallels Tools from installing on my other machines is not working as expected. Parallels seems to bypass the normal autostart means and launch the update process itself automatically. I've not been fast enough a couple of times and had to restore from Snapshot in order to go back to the prior version of Parallels Tools. On that note, is there any place to specifically download the prior parallels tools from? And I'm open to any other ideas on how to stop Parallels from running the upgrade. Thanks again for the continued help.
