Every time I open an office application, ie word / excel the hour glass hangs. I am using XP pro sp 3 and all software is up to date. Basically I cannot use any office applications. I have uninstalled and reinstalled It is the professional version. I need help please as I need to use these applications. Maybe it would have been better not to got to apple and stay on a PC if I had known this would happen. Everyone said it would work and apple recommended parallels instead of VM
Hi, how much memory does your mac have? how much memory are you giving the VM? are you running the VM from a BootCamp partition or from a virtual hard drive? Do other Windows applications show the same behaviour?
Office 7 and parallels I have 4 mb ram, for windows it is set to automatic vs a set amount. I am not using bootcamp. I have only used 1 other windows application and it works fine. I know if I change the view in parallels, word may open to a new document, but when I go to type the hour glass opens. Power point just does not work. I am running office pro. There is lots of space on the hard drive. I have reinstalled office several times, same result. I have to get this working.....the apple store recommended parallels vs VM for the mac.
Would you ming checking the amount of RAM currently allocated to your VM? You'll find it here: Menu "Virtual Machine" -> Configure -> General (in the "Main memory") section. If this is more than 2,048 MB, shut down your VM (but don't quit Parallels) and change this to 1024 MB (1 GB is quite sufficient for Office applications). Frankly, though, it sounds like it's more of a Windows / Office issue than a Parallels specific one. I believe I recently read an entry here where someone solved their Office problem (different from yours but I forgot the issue) by deinstalling Office, rebooting the VM, and then re-installing Office. Maybe you could try that`? I'm no Windows expert but I would think either some Office files have gone missing (or been displaced, or broken), or the Registry is messed up. I've been running Office on an XP virtual machine and now on a Windows 7 virtual machine without any glitch.
