I keep directories of several VB6 projects (don't ask!) on my Mac drives, while opening them, editing them, and building them using VB6 under Windows XP under Parallels. This has worked flawlessly for several years. Since installing build 9344 in early March, doing a VB6 build operation fails, giving a VB "link error" complaining about a corrupt OBJ file (which would have been created during the build operation). Doesn't sound like a Parallels problem, except that: (a) I have over about a dozen different VB6 projects, all of which worked before, and none of which do now, and (b) any of those projects builds just fine if all I do is copy the directory from the Mac file system over to the Windows desktop and open the copied directory with VB6.

There is some combination of something VB6 is doing during its build operation and some change in Parallels file support with Build 9344 that is now broken after years of working. By the way, there are lots of other things I continue to do successfully accessing all sorts of files on the Mac file system from Windows applications. So this isn't a blatant problem; something more subtle.

Is it possible that some file access option was changed with the install of 9344? I looked at permissions for those files and directories, and see nothing amiss, but are there some options somewhere else I should be looking at?

Any/all ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

Here's an update. After posting the prior query, I found another thread that complained of file corruption using Corel tools. In that thread were comments from others about file corruption with other applications as well. There was a suggestion to try installing an update to Parallels Tools on the Windows machine. Located here:
    http://kb.parallels.com/en/8296

I did that update, and the problem with VB6 seems to have been cured.

Two comments: 1) Installing that update to Parallels Tools took a substantial length of time on the PC while it appeared to be just sitting and doing nothing -- maybe 10 minutes or so. It did eventually finish however; have patience.
    2) It is incredible to me that a problem like this, causing corrupt files, with a potentially known solution would not have been proactively announced to Parallels customers. They know who I am (I get their promotional stuff routinely) and they also know I downloaded this faulty build... They should e-mail every customer to tell them to apply this fix.

    Solved an issue of mine

Thanks for posting the link to the hot fix. I was having issues with 9344 as well and thanks to your post, I got the solution.

I, too, cannot understand why Parallels did not send out an advisory email. I was just getting frustrated with them and the product.
