I have a Windows XP virtual machine that has a size of 31.7gb. It was made using transporter from a former boot camp partition. It has plenty of free space (many GB, like 10 maybe) but when I try to compress the virtual machine, it says the size is going to be the same. Any guidance here?

Check whether your virtual hard disk is fixed or expanding. only expanding hard disks can be compressed. Use the "Parallels image tool" application for this. Good luck!

    Shaddam,

Thanks for your reply. I opened the Parallels Image Tool app but apparently the virtual hard disk is already an expanding type (because the only option available for converting is to 'convert to plain' type). The current virtual machine size is identical to the Boot Camp partition I had before, though there is plenty of empty space in it. Do you have any ideas on how I can shrink this virtual machine size?

    Your help is much appreciated!

Ah - I believe that BootCamp partitions cannot be shrinked. Only virtual HD's can.
