Hello everybody. I am encountering a problem that strikes me as quite odd.

When working in parallels, I can use the internet in Firefox and Internet Explorer. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. However, in other programs like Napster, where the standard internet settings are being used to obtain a connection, the connection fails and I get corresponding error messages. This becomes increasingly frustrating and I know no further.

    Has anyone had similar problems?
I am running Mac OS 10.5.8 and Parallels 3.0, with Win XP.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Christoph

are you working from behind a proxy server or firewall? if yes, maybe the relevant ports aren't open. This is the case in my company, where only mail and http / https ports are open.

If you meant changing the network settings to Host mode, I just tried that. However, it didn't change a thing.

Do you have any other ideas or hints?

Unfortunately, this problem was fully resolved only in Parallels Desktop 5.0 (Shared Networking)

You can try Bridged networking (prefferably, but it is not guaranteed to work in all environments) or tune Apple's internet sharing (this not applies for PD5.0): http://kb.parallels.com/en/4885

The bridged networking option seems to have done the trick. Thank you very much for the great help!
