I have been running Parallels on a MacPro for a few years now....upgraded to v4 a month or so ago, and everything had been running fine until yesterday. My Mac woke up just fine.... but my VM was suspended [no msgs', no errors].... the Windows clock even stopped, but the task bar was still visible. I attempted to reboot the VM and Windows, and got a BLACK screen... . All Parallels menu items were grayed out except "SUSPEND" which was checked. I attempted to follow the below instructions, but the files mentioned do not exist in my HDD packages. My packages have four files in them DiskDescriptor.xml 4K in size DiskDescriptor.xml.Temp 4k in size winxp.hdd ZERO bytes winxp.hdd.0.{ a long guid }.hds 31.42Gig I work from home an rely on this Windows software to connect to my computers at work Please follow the steps mentioned below: 1) Please, open the Parallels folder: by default it is placed in one of the following directories. /Users/<you user name>/Documents/ /Users/<you user name>/Library/ 2) Find the correspondent virtual machine's folder (Microsoft Windows XP.pvm in our example and right click on it and choose Show package contents). 3) Delete the files with .mem and .sav extensions.
I sure am glad Parallels is RESPONSIVE I posted this FIVE days ago, and sent an email to Tech Support and haven't heard from them? I have been forced to do business from an old slow lap top... while waiting for some type of a response.
Did you ever find a fix for this? My VM, with Parallels Desktop 4, did the same this morning. I cannot get it out of Suspend mode.
You ARE kidding right? I posted that problem on NOVEMBER 17TH, 2009..... that was THREE AND A HALF MONTHS AGO AND HAVE I EVEN RECIEVED AN ACKNOWLEGMENT FROM PARALLELS????? [Oh yeah, I emailed their tech support as well.. numerous times].... THE ANSWER IS a RESOUNDING NO..... I GET PLENTY OF CRAP EMAILS FROM THEM WANTING ME TO UPGRADE TO VERSION 5.... But with the crappy support they supply, I have NO INTENTION of upgrading..... AND I HAVE TAKEN IT ON MYSELF TO INSURE THAT AS FEW PEOPLE BUY THIS PRODUCT AS POSSIBLE.... IF THEY CANNOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEMS EMAILED BY THEIR CUSTOMERS..... THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT IN THE NEED OF MORE SALES [although their annoying Version5 email campaign begs to differ]
