I'm running Parallels 5.x on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.
After creating the Windows 7 VM, and booting to the DVD (not an ISO), Windows
begins its install, then fails almost immediately with an error that the "...registry file
    is missing or corrupt...".
Retrying, repeatedly, ends with the same error each time.

The VM has 1 CPU, and I've tried 1Gb and 2Gb of RAM, with the same results.

Has anyone managed to get Windows 7 installed in a VM?

    Thank you!

yup, I'm running Win 7 64 bit on this VM.

To me this sounds as if you either have a (virtual) drive issue (which is hardly possible), or your Windows install disk is broken. What size is your virtual drive? If it's large enough - > 10 GB - then that shouldn't be any issue; I suggest you return the Windows disk to your dealer and get another one.

    64 bit on parallels

I have tried to install windows 7, but keep getting the error CPU not compatible with 64 bit mode.

    How can I change this?
