Ok this is probably a Troubleshooting 101 question, but I just re-installed my VM and after installing Outlook (stupid work email), all PDF's that are attached to emails are trying to open up using Numbers. Where can I change the default program to use either Preview or Adobe Reader (Windows)? Thanks for your help!

Go to the VM's settings, choose the "Options" tab, select the "Shared applications" entry from the list, and uncheck both "Share Windows applications with Mac OS X" and "Share Mac OS X applications with Windows". Then Windows documents should open with "their" Windows" applications within Windows.

I've tried that. However, when I go to open up a PDF in Outlook, an error message reading "Application Not Found" pops up. I have no problems opening PDF's via a download link on the internet. Just Outlook. I'm baffled.

Thanks for your suggestion. Any more thoughts?

does Outlook have settings for "helper applications"? alternatively, go to Windows Explorer, find a PDF, right-click on it, select "open with...", and then you'll get a dialog that allows you do set with which program to open the PDF - and assign this association permanently ("always open with..." or similar, at the bottom of the program list). Check whether PDF's are set to open with Acrobat Reader.

Dear @amitiec Thanks for sharing the information. The article is very much helpful though it is not quite related to Parallels Desktop.
