Just upgraded to Parallels Desktop for Mac 5.0 on top of Snow Leopard. Installed clean/new copy of Windows 7 (64-bit) and as soon as the Windows installation process begins, I get a "Load Driver", "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now"

I cannot get past this problem--clearly Parallels Desktop for Mac 5 should have already "provided" or included the necessary driver/emulation.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello,

I have send your problem description to the responsible persons, they will investigate the issue.

As a quick solution, you can create CD/DVD image (make .iso file using Disk Utility application) and use that image to install Windows.

  3. Could you pls reproduce the problem and make the problem report afterwards. We do need problem report number to start the investigation.

    Thanks

    Hello.
    Seems like improper VM configuration.
Do you create/install VM via express (wizard) or make it custom configured ?

Please create problem report at the moment of installation stall (menu "Help" -> "Report a Problem") and send it to us.

I had a similar problem today - windows 7 looking for 'cd/dvd driver'.
Fixed by downloading another copy of the windows 7 .iso file and using a download managet to make sure that the whole 3GB image is downloaded - the previous copy was only 2GB yet it 'seemed' to work...

Also make sure that you check the .iso image by comparing the MD5 hash - quick search on google and you will find the MD5 hashes for the windows 7 .iso images.

Anyway with the full 3GB image windows 7 is installing fine and no longer looking for drivers.

I think my iso was corrupted too. I downloaded the iso again and it seems to be working fine

    Same problem on Parallels Server

I am having this problem with Parallels Server Bare Metal on a Dell PowerEdge.

I also had this same problem with Ubuntu 9 and 8.04 64-bit (but not with 32 bit).

  10. Tom,

could you pls check that your iso file is correct? This issue was caused by corrupted ISO for guys above. If iso is correct, pls create start installation, face problem, create problem report and share its number with me.

Actually, mine is a retail DVD delivered from Staples. Problem occurs for both the 32 bit and 64 bit install DVDs.

Solution in my case: Select "Passthrough" on DVD/CD

Tried various settings but selecting "Passthrough" seems to have allowed Windows 7 to proceed without the missing driver problem.

  13. thank you very much for this clarification. It is great that the situation has been resolved

I don't see how this is resolved... what do you mean by "passthrough"? Where has this setting been selected? I cannot seem to find it anywhere.

  15. There is a specific option for PS in CDROM configuration. This option is ON by default in PD

Please detail exactly where to find this setting, I've searched through all the menus and can't find it and have the same problem. Thanks.

I have to agree with StephenA that I cannot understand what option you are talking about.

I have also read PedroT's advice about the Device menu, but I don't think that is the problem. I have both a physical drive and an ISO mounted, and I have even tried searching for drivers on the Snow Leopard disk (though I know it is really looking for drivers for the Parallels fake CD/DVD drive).

The only place I can find CD/DVD options is under Virtual Machine > Configure > CD/DVD, and there is nothing mentioned there about this PS/PD setting or passthrough or anything like it.

    Please advise.

I was able to get past this error by going to Devices->CD/DVD 1->Configure and changing the source to point to my DVD drive. Not sure why it wasn't using it by default in the first place, but this cleared up the problem for me and I was able to proceed with the installation.
