Hey there, i looked in the forums and found one identical case but no solution I had parallels 4 up and running prior to installing snow leopard. i then upgraded to snow, all was fine. Parallels 5 came out and i had access to windows 7 so i decided to switch. Bad idea, my MBP can't run it with any decent performance. So i tried to downgrade. Installing P4 works fine up until the reboot. Upon restarting and when P4 starts to open, it crashes immediately, and continues to do so. Never really opening. I cannot uninstall because it says the program was never installed. This is in the error report Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: /Library/Parallels/Parallels Service.app/Contents/MacOS/libQtXml.4.dylib Referenced from: /Applications/Parallels Desktop.app/Contents/MacOS/prl_client_app Reason: image not found
there is a manual uninstall procedure somewhere... in fact, right here: http://kb.parallels.com/en/6904 Good luck. Although I believe you shouldn't give up on P5 just yet. I'm running a Windows 7 VM on my MBAir which is way weaker than a MBP, and it works like a charm, including speed. After much experimentation, I found 832 MB memory for the VM a perfect size as it lets me work simultaneously with Mac and Windows without too much swapping going on and I can still run memory intensive apps on Windows. Also, I changed the VM's sound driver's setting to 11.025 kHz which gets rid of crackles and pops in the sound (admittedly, the sound is a bit muffled now), and I modified the foreground and background priorities on the VM's config.pvs from 1 and 1 to 2 and 0, respectively. I've set the VM to be optimized for Mac OS X apps. I suspect that most of the "slow performance in both Mac and VM" reports in this forum (and I have contributed to those) come from the fact that Parallels' VMs are quite memory hungry and there's a lot of swapping going on if the VM has got more than 1 GB assigned to it. So use 1 Gig or a bit less and try again. Good luck.
Hmm. What are your specs? i got 2.4 GHz C2D with 2 Gigs of RAM. Running Nvidia 9400M GT gfx. I can get windows 7 to load up just fine. but when i try to play some video games (what else would you use windows for right?) it lags into oblivion. Plus P5 was only a trial key, where as P4 was not. This was with basic settings (i think somwhere around 500 Mb of RAM and i tried it at 1 Gig. 1 Gig was far better but no where near satisfactory. Windows XP performs much better imo. TY for the reply, ill give it a a go.
Glad it worked. My specs are MBAir, 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 Gigs Ram, NVidia 9400. The VM has 832 GB, 2 virtual processors assigned to it, 128 MB assigned to Graphics card, 3D on, optimization set for Mac OS X. I'm running the VM in full screen only - therefore I'm not loading most of the Parallels services in Windows. Windows is only loading the drivers Parallels installs with its tools (graphics, sound, network etc.) and the Parallels Control Center app. As regards games: I'm happily playing Warhammer 40,000 and Battle for Middle Earth. I also tried Far Cry which runs well (but I don't particularly like the game) and Unreal 2 (which also runs well but again that's not my type of game). To get Parallels to run well I find it's really mostly a question of balancing the memory between the Mac and the VM.
