I just upgraded to Parallels 5 and can't install Parallels Tools. I've seem similar posts, but for Parallels 4 so I was afraid to download the files and run them.

I'm getting the message: Failed to Install Parallels Shared Folders Drivers

I had the tools running for a while, but got an error message about Mouse Synchronization when tried to run Coherence mode - and it told me to Reinstall Parallels Tools. Which I did, but then it totally failed the install.

I downloaded the Windows Cleanup Utility and Parallels Tools is not in the list, but every time I try to reinstall Tools I get the error message about the Shared Folders and it rolls the install back.

    Any ideas?

    Parallel Build: 5.0.9220
    OSx: 10.6.2

Recently we have fixed one more problem with Parallels Shared Folder installation. There should be ok in next update.

In this 9220 version the steps in http://forum.parallels.com/showpost.php?p=142852&postcount=4 should workaround the problem

Btw, what is your guest OS? Is it Win7 or XP?

    Thanks Elric -

    The guest OS is XP

I'll try the post you referred me to.

I am also having the problem with installing Parallel Tools - it's failing on the Shared Folders Drivers. I just tried the above fix, but it didn't fix anything.
I'd appreciate any info and/or help!

I already sent one report ID but I just did another one since I went ahead and got 5.0.9310 installed (but still didn't work). ID 2202793.

I've looked at the problem report. Interesting. We've never seen this problem before. Could you please Right-click "My Computer" -> "Manage" -> "Device Manager", unfold the "Network Adapters" and send one more problem report.

    A couple more questions:

    1) Am I right that on version 9308 all was working ok and the problem appeared after you upgraded to version 9310?

    2) Do you have any antivirus installed? If it is so, please try to disable it prior to install Parallels Tools

Elric - I did what you asked and opened all the way to network adapters and the report ID is 2226201.

You are correct that everything was working okay in the previous version. I assume that version was 9308 since I would have downloaded the lastest version when the CD checked for updates. Everything was working GREAT until the update that came in last Friday or Saturday and then automatically updated Monday and asked that Parallels Tools be reinstalled.

During phone support Monday we tried the version on my CD, 9220, but it didn't work either so, since I saw others with the same problem after the new update, I went ahead and updated again so version 9310 is on my computer and that was the report you saw.

And no, I do not have any antivirus installed.

Thank you so much - you are the first that has found something on this problem for me!

    On more thing...

    Elric,

One more thing - every time I start Windows 7 in Parallels, I get the message "Do you want the application "prl-naptd" to accept incoming network connections" and I click allow every time. But then the next time the same message comes up again even though I see "prl-naptd" in the allow list.

This was also not happening before the update.

    Thanks again!

Thank you, this information is very useful. As I see that there is a support ticket 856106. I've posted the reports number to the ticket. You should be contacted soon.

I have a solution that may help, but at this point it is better to proceed within support-system.

PS: About the problem with prl-naptd: it seems that it is not a Parallels Desktop issue, this question likely comes from some firewall application on Mac OS.. I'd say much if I had a screenshot of the message

    Elric,

Thanks - if I don't hear back from the support ticket soon I'm problem going to bother you for your idea! :)

The prl-naptd issue didn't happen the last time so I'm going to wait on that right now and just get this Tools issue resolved.

    Additional Help Needed

    Elric,

I called support again today and was told that under my ticket #856106, two e-mails had been sent to me 1-19-2010 and 1-22-2010. However, I have not received any e-mails from Parallels other than from Parallels Forums (and, no, they are not stuck in a spam folder either).

Is there any way to can find out what they said to do and post it on this thread since this is the only information I seem to be able to get?

    Thank you!
    Christina

Very strange.. I see that the phone call is also logged in the system. May be some spam-filtering system kills replies or there is a typo in the mail-address. Could you check the mail for filtered spams?

It would be really nice to have the support-system working, because if the solution will not work, further steps will be required and it will be hard to proceed without communication established..

I believe that support should have some rules about problems with support-systems, so for the first I'll forward the message to the support-team.

meantime, the proposed steps are the next:

"Could you please try the following -- boot into the Safe mode (hit F8 several times on bootup) -> click Start -> Ctrl+click My Computer -> choose Manage -> select Device Manager in the list -> Ctrl+click Parallels Ethernet adapter -> choose Uninstall. Then reboot normally the virtual machine and reinstall Parallels Tools.

Kindly let me know if it helped."

    Elric,

That didn't work which is, at this point, no surprise to me!!!

I have given alternative emails over the phone and sent in another trouble email with three emails in it! And still nothing!!
