I have (seemingly successfully) installed Parallels on a MacBook Pro laptop, however, when I go to open the VM I get this message; "Virtual machine Microsoft Windows XP cannot be opened since it is already used in another Parallels Desktop window" (where Microsoft Windows XP is my VM name). I have no other instances of VM running or installed, and this VM has worked in the past. I did install a couple of other VM's during installation by accident, and I'm guessing that when I deleted them something is still stuck somewhere, but I am also new to Mac so I'm unsteady with fixes on the Mac right out of the gate. I did an FAQ forum search with the error message to no avail. I first had Boot Camp installed, but uninstalled it when I installed Parallels. It looks like I might have to re-install it again because of some USB issues with Parallels not allowing me to utilize my cell phone as a modem - which I was easily able to do on the XP install of Boot Camp. If there is any advice on getting a Motorola Q to work as a modem with PDANet software in Parallels I would love to hear about it. I purchased and installed "Missing Link" software for the phone so I can sync data, but it doesn't help with the modem issue.
Parallels creates a file with a name ending in .lock in the same directory as the rest of the VM files. Search the forum for .lock and you will find detailed instructions for at least two methods of deleting this file, clearing the lock and allowing you to start your VM.
