My Windows 7 64 Bit (both Home Premium and Ultimate) running under Parallels Desktop 5 on my iMac i7 has been crashing after 5-10 minutes. Everytime! It could crash while using IE or any installed application in Windows. I've lost about 2 days solving this situation and I've found it. Everything stopped crashing and started to work perfectly only after I uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security, which was suggested by Parallels. I have no idea what happened exactly, because I never had problems before. But the system could not work normally with this Kaspersky, so if you guys have regular app crashes in Windows 7 under Desktop 5, try removing Kaspersky stuff. Good luck!
I am having similar problems. Just got a new iMac i7 and running Parallels 5 with Windows 7. Apps keep crashing. When they crash during install, I can usually install a second time and then it succeeds. It is almost like a temprary dirctory cannot be created so they system just gives up, and the second time, the temporary directory is there and works fine. I have to reboot every time I use an application for a little while. For example, I run Quicken 2010 in the Windows 7 VM. When I go to look at the old account statements, the app crashes (Quicken Launcher). It appears to be trying to start Adobe Acrobat Viewer to lok at the statement embedded int eh Quicken app, and then the Quicken or Adobe application can't find the docuemnt that was loaded into the temp file. I have uninstalled Kapersky and we'll see how it goes.
I have now been up for over 12 hours after removing the Kapersky, and it works great. I recommend that everyone having these application problems try removing Kapersky.
I have (had) exactly the same issues with iMac i7and Windows 7 I received a message in the Microsoft Security Center aan hour or so back. The message said something to the effect that the link between the Kapersky anti virus application and the Security Center no longer works abd I should disable Kapersky and get another program or an update from Kapersky. I turned off Kapersky, checked my security settings and reset, turned on Kapersky and everything now APPEARS to be fine. All my known multitude of problems have gone away. Kapersky IS RUNNING, does not link to Security Center but is doing its job and updates itself. Best Regards Oldie.

I just bought a 27 inch imac, i7 quad core with 8 gb of ram. I am about to install win 7 - 32 bit. (THe parallel people told me to run the 32 bit version instead of the 64 version) Is that right? Any thing I need to know to make it run the best? THey said to give it 2 cores, and 2 gb of ram. no more. no less. Is that right?
You can run either The specs for the product (Parallels 5) say you can run either the 32-bit or 64-bit version. I have installed the 64-bit version with no trouble other than the trouble described above with the Parallels Internet Security Software (which is really Kapersky). I have installed AVG instead with no problems.
