I just upgraded to the newest version of Parallels Desktop for Mac, and wanted to migrate my VMWare Fusion 3 virtual machines. Parallels automatically identified my Windows XP Professional virtual machine and migrated it successfully, installing Parallels Tools with no problem.

However, it did not identify my Windows 7 virtual machine (which opens flawlessly in VMWare Fusion 3), and when I tried using Parallels Transporter to migrate the virtual machine, I got the following message:

"No active volume is selected or no operating system is installed on the specified volumes. The selected volumes will be migrated to Parallels virtual data disks. Are you sure you want to continue?"

I did continue, and when I tried opening the virtual machine, I got the following message:

"Parallels Mounter is unable to open the virtual hard disk. Either the hard disk has no volumes or its file system is not supported or contains errors. Start your virtual machine and check the disk for file system errors."

I did check for errors. . . no problems. Any ideas how I can successfully migrate this virtual machine?

    Hi, geodon005

Did you try to create new Windows 7 VM using the migrated disk?
Please, provide a log file (it's place is /Library/Logs/parallels.log).

Not sure what you mean by "create new Windows 7 VM using the migrated disk" . .. do you mean installing WIndows 7 from its install DVD? If so, the answer is no. And also, if so, why did this problem not occur with the Windows XP Professional virtual machine?

Anyway, here is the log file you requested. . .

Thanks for log! We will analyze it.

About "create new Windows 7 VM using the migrated disk":
After migration as data disk you have a virtual disk image in parallels format. This disk is full copy of fusion image and it may be already bootable in Parallels.
I meant that in vm creation wizard you can choose existing image instead creating new one.

Alas, I cannot boot the new virtual disk image. I know something is going wrong in the migration process, because the Windows 7 virtual machine created in VMWare Fusion 3 is approximately 22.5 GB in size, and the disk image created from it by Parallels Transporter is only 2.1 MB in size.

Anything yet from an examination of my log file? I really would like to solve this problem...

    Sorry for long delay.

Unfortunately I have no solution for virtual disk conversion yet, but you can try migrate the VM like physical computer. To do this:
    1. run the Windows 7 VM in vmvare
    2. install Parallels Transporter Agent inside it (after installation you must reboot vm)
    3. run physical migration using Parallels Transporter Client (in Parallels Transporter Client need to choose VM's name/ip)
