I recently upgraded from Parallels 4 to Parallels 5, and then from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7 Professional. Since XP doesn't allow a direct upgrade to Win 7 while preserving everything, I created a new virtual machine for the installation, installing a fresh copy of XP then upgrading to Win 7. However, I noticed that the Start Menu icon in the Mac OS X dock (I use Snow Leopard, 10.6.2) was still the same icon as from my Windows XP installation, even though the "Coherence Mode" splash screen showed it should be updated for Win 7. Investigating, I found that in the Virtual Machine Configuration window (Virtual Machine: Configure), the guest OS is reporting as Windows XP, despite the fact that the guest OS is now Windows 7.

I don't know if this misreporting is causing any other problems besides making the dock icon wrong, but I am concerned. Is this a real problem that could cause me difficulty further down the road, or should I just ignore it? Anyone else having this issue?

    Hello David,

yes icon selection at VM list window based on guest OS version from VM configuration. Unfortunately PD 5.0 does not have GUI control to change this value but you can do this manually - just set OsNumber XML element value to 2059 (it woulf be better to stop your VM before this action).

Terrific! That worked. Just took me a while to find the correct xml file you were referring to.

    Thanks!
