I am going to be upgrading to Snow Leopard and I was planning on wiping my entire hard drive and starting from scratch, which then means reinstalling everything... Right now, I have Parallels 3.0 installed which I understand is too old to work with Snow Leopard, so I would have to upgrade to at least 4.0 anyway. Also, I didn't install it myself initially, it was done by someone at my company and so I don't have access to the initial emails with serial numbers and whatever else that may have been sent when it was purchased. I'm not sure if the person that installed it still has access to that information either, but I wouldn't count on it. I did find the Parallels Product Id in the about menu, I'm guessing this is like a unique serial number. I also found a page with download links for versions 3 and 4. What I want to know is, will it be possible for me to reinstall it/upgrade to version 4 with only this information? Am I going to need some kind of additional license key/serial number/activation code that I don't have right now (or can I get it through support using the product id?)
You would definitely need an activation key if you are planning to upgrade from 3.0 to a higher version. This activation key is available on your machine. The following article describes several methods on retrieving it: http://kb.parallels.com/en/4661
