I did the initial install of Parallels on my macbook pro and everything ran fine. However, after I did the install of the McAfee virus software the vm freezes when windows xp tries to shutdown. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I've never like McAfee so I may be seen as being a bit biased; however, I would suggest uninstalling it and getting Norton SystemWorks 2007. I've had NO problems with NSW and use it for my deployed systems. There are lots of other AV options, some free or shareware, but I use and rely on NSW.
I agree about McAfee. But our work have deployed Eset's Nod32 rather than Norton and I have had it running under Parallels for a few months. It is very light-weight, nothing fancy just a virus scanner that according to reports, is good at detection. Inexpensive too. Just to throw in another option (I've had 2 friends have recently both had trouble getting Norton 2007 to install on their systems, and have since taken them back and installed Nod32 without trouble, but I've personally not had trouble with Norton when I used it but definitely now prefer nod because of its simplicity). But then I'm sure many others have their opinions too Cheers Russell
an anti-virus software thread could easily turn into a holy war! yet i cannot resist the temptation to add my two cents. I use the free version of AVG which takes up very little resources and runs quite nicely on parallels guest. i find mcafee and norton good but they just use up too much resources - which are precious and limited when you're running parallels. http://free.grisoft.com/
