I'm running Parallels 4.0 on a MacBook Pro with Time Machine (backup). I have a 12GB Windows XP image that works fine. I've turned on "Undo Disk" support, which means that every time I shut down Windows, all of my changes are discarded. This is a very handy feature that protects against viruses and other maladies that occur in Windows after using it for too long.

I am disappointed that Time Machine wants to back up my 12GB image every time I start Windows. Since I'm using undo disks, there should be nothing for Time Machine to back up.

Yes, I know that there is a "don't back up with Time Machine" option, but that isn't what I want. That will prevent the 12GB image from being backed up no matter what. I expected Parallels Desktop to be smart enough to make sure that the 12GB primary image is completely unmodified when undo disks are used. Time Machine would then not bother trying to back it up.

I just don't understand what the point of undo disks is, if the primary image is modified. Can someone at Parallels explain this to me?

    Version 5 any better

I've done a quick search but cant find that the new version (5) addresses the time machine either. If I only use XP for two programs and I'm sticking with Leopard and XP a little longer, I can't see any reason to upgrade? Am I missing anything?
