I have three VMs set up with Windows XP SP3 as the Guest OS. The one that I use for most networking suddenly stopped being able to connect to the internet. The settings are identical to the other VMs, which are able to connect just fine. I tried the solutions (such as they were) in the FAQ and a few I found here in this forum, all to no avail. I suspect that when Parallels tech support answers my ticket, they will tell me to reinstall PD. (This was suggested once before for another problem I was having but I managed to solve it a different way.) What they never answered for me was what effect this might have on my existing VMs. Would they just continue on as they were, or am I supposed to take snapshots first and then restore them from that? It would be great if someone can clue me in to better information on troubleshooting my internet connection and what will happen if I have to reinstall PD.
Hi Please click Start -> Run and execute cmd.exe. Type in the appeared window command "ipconfig /all". Then, without closing the window, click Parallels Destkop menu "Help"->"Report a Problem", send a problem report (it is not necessary to provide description) and post here the report ID.
Think about VMs like they are Word-documents. If close Word without saving document - all modifications will be lost. So.. Taking snapshot or shutting the Vm down - is like saving. So, if suspend, take a snapshot, or shutdown the VM before reinstall/upgrade, then all must be ok with VMs
I tried this yesterday after reading some peripherally related post. I do not get any kind of normal output. It just says "Windows IP Configuration" and nothing else. However, I will wait for a reply from tech support before putting in another ticket.
Thanks. I am much comforted. Would still prefer not to do it, especially with my backup disk nowhere near me.
Try execute in cmd.exe command "netsh interface ip reset" If this won't help, send a problem report anyway..

Have you rebooted the VM after executing this command? Please send a problem report (see instructions above)
