I'm having a problem with security and Parallels tools. Even though I have security set to High, Smart mount, shared folders and shared applications all set to off, when I install Parallels tools, it puts the shared folders icon on the desktop, adds all the Mac applications to the start menu and mounts the Mac disks using smart mount. Some of these issues come back whenever I upgrade tools too. This a big pain as I run 3 copies of Parallels on 3 boxes and number of VMs on each, and I need to go round every VM each time I upgrade tools or rebuild a box. It's also a security risk as some of the VMs may be used as demo systems for external clients and they may gain access to a Mac drive despite Smart Mount being off and security being high. Is this a known bug with tools? Or is there something else I should be doing to actually make security work? Thanks Aidan
I've seen this too. I think there is a bug in the VM configuration screen. My hunch is that in some cases (perhaps when the VM is running? or perhaps when you upgrade the Parallels Tools?) it doesn't properly read the settings. I've had luck by doing this: 1. Shut down the VM 2. change the settings : make sure you click OFF & ON every setting you wish to change at least once (this may be voodoo but doesn't hurt) 3. Reboot the VM. I think that changing the settings while the VM is running may cause false readings & ignored settings.
