Looks like downloading updates is a pain for quite a few people. I've read the other threads on this topic, but they don't seem to match mine. I have a brand new Macbook Pro with Parallels Build 4.0.3844 on it, and when the constant reminder comes that I need to download an update (it comes an annoying several times an hour) I try to do it, and push 'instal now'. A pane then comes up to say that the system is searching to find if I have the right software to download it, and then when I click the OK button on that pane, it disappears to be replaced extremely briefly (?0.5 sec) by a pane that looks like it will guide me thought the installation, but it disappears before I can read it and nothing more happens. I am a super non-nerd, a would like some instructions to help me with this situation please.

    Thanks, John

    I'm having the same issue

The installer downloads a large .dmg file to the desktop after I first open Parallels. When it's finished downloading, it asks me to install the update. I go through the steps, and then it just disappears. I checked top and Activity Monitor and it's not running in the background. I think there is an issue with this version of the update. It just stops.

    It is: ParallelsDesktop-parallels-en_US-4.0.3846.436204.dmg

Umm, isn't that the .dmg I already have?

    Hello,

Please follow the steps below in regards with the issue:

    1. Please uninstall Parallels using the latest 3846 build.

    http://download.parallels.com/deskt...lsDesktop-parallels-en_US-4.0.3846.436204.dmg

But remember that you need to uninstall both application and application settings while uninstalling Parallels Desktop application.

    2. Then install Parallels desktop build 3846. After installing you will be prompted to create a new virtual machine. Cancel that page and go to File -> Open and choose the appropriate .pvm file in Documents/Parallels.

    Also, install Parallels Tools.

    More please

    Hi Anupama,

Since I'm an amateur, and I know that this Parallels stuff can be tricky, I just want a bit more guidance before I do as you suggest. I have downloaded the 3846 version as instructed, but have yet to install it. I have some questions so I don't stuff it up:

    1. My current version is build 3844 - can 3846 go straight on top of this?

    2. What do you mean by remembering to uninstall both application and application settings? Is it clear from the instructions in the installation process? Does the 3846 package walk me through this as we go?

    3. Is it clear how to 'cancel' the page for creating the new VM, and what is a .pvm file and how do I know which one is 'appropriate'? Does that mean (in my case) choosing Windows 2007?

I will await your reply before proceeding.

    Thanks for this,
    John
