I have a new Mac and want to move my virtual machine from my old Mac. I have a clean install of Parallels on the new machine. I understand from the discussions that moving my .pvm folder should allow me to import my "old" virtual machine. But when I try to copy the .pvm file to a flash drive, I get an error message (0) saying no can do. How do I solve the dilemma?

What exactly is the error message?

Moving the .pvm should be just the same as moving any other file. However, copying large files may fail since USB flash drives are generally formatted with FAT and it has it's own restrictions.

The error message said that the operation could not be completed due to an unexpected error. The message code was zero (0). I tried to compress the file--which was still 16 gig--no luck. I tried a 64 gb flash drive and a large external drive. No luck. I would think that many people are in a situation like mine, where they are bringing online a new machine and want to transport their old virtual machine. The documentation doesn't seem to address going from a Parallels VM to a new PArallels VM. Very frustrating.

The first thing that comes to mind is that you aree trying to copy a virtual machine, basically a very large file, to a flash drive or external HDD which is on FAT, thus it is not able to handle such big files (the limit is about 3 Gb for a single file as far as I remember). Can you check this out?

Many thanks! You are right the external drive is a FAT formatted drive. I guess if I get a drive formatted by a Mac OS X it will work even for a large file... my virtual drive is ~50 GB?

I have a Mac Pro with two internal hard drives. My Parallels VM is on drive one. I needed to create a new Mac user on drive 2 and migrate my programs and data there. I now want to erase and reformat drive 1. However, when I launched Parallels from user2 (I imported), it seems to have created a pointer back to the VT on drive 1 rather than moving the installation. Can I just drag my .pvm from User 1's Library-->Parallels folder to User 2's Library on drive 2? There is currently no Parallels folder in User 2's Library. Do I just create one? Thanks.
