I am having problems with switching to Coherence Mode. I get a message that says "The Parallels mouse synchronization service is not started. Reinstall Parallels Tools and try again." I have reinstalled the Parallels Tools several times and it still won't work. I have checked that the Display pointer trails is turned off and it is - so what is the problem? I really wish I hadn't upgraded and wouldn't have if I hadn't loaded the new OS for Mac and THEN found out Paralells 3 wouldn't work with it. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Hello Darlene, Please clear the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp on Windows side to remove all the information kept by Windows installer. Check the Guest OS behavior after this. If the problem is still here, try the following: 1. Go to C:\Program Files\Parallels and delete the "Parallels Tools" folder; 2. Click "Start" -> "Run" and type regedit. Hit OK. 3. In Registry Editor, go to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Parallels and delete the "Parallels Tools" entry. 4. Reboot Windows; 5. Make sure that Tools do not get installed again. Now, install Parallels Tools. You can install Parallels Tools in two ways. First, start the virtual machine->click on install Parallels Tools. Second, you can install manually. 1) Go to MAC HD/ Library/Parallels/Tools/Prl-tools-win.iso 2) Double click on that file 3) You will have a file as Setup.exe 4) Copy the file and paste it in Windows Desktop (you can also use a pen/flash drive for this purpose) 5) Then run the setup.exe in Windows 6) you will be able to install Parallel Tools Perfectly. Also, turn off the firewall and disable the antivirus.
Anupama, I attempted your recommendation, but it did not resolved the problem. Parallels has been working fine for me, even after upgrading to Snow Leopard. My problems began when I migrated to a new MacBook Pro. I used Parallels Transporter to migrate my guest Windows XP from the old MacBook to the new one -- I didn't have to reinstall the OS and all my data seems to be in order, which is great. However, I'm unable to get Coherence mode to work. An interesting thing happened, though, when I removed the Parallels Tools as you suggested. Before I removed them, everything seemed to work fine except for the icons on the guest Windows XP desktop -- they were not showing up. Once I removed the Parallel Tools, those icons showed up just like I had them setup on the old machine. When I reinstalled the Parallels Tools, they went away again, but Coherence still doesn't work. I'm certain my problem stems from having migrated my guest OS from one laptop to another using Parallels Transporter. I'd greatly appreciate your assistance on getting this final kink worked out. Thank you, Omar
Resolved modality issue Darlene and Anupama, I've resolved my issue with modality not working. I followed Anupama's instructions, but rather than removing the folders and the registry entries, I used Windows's Control Panel to uninstall the Parallels Tools. After the uninstall, I reinstalled them and everything worked fine. I hope this helps. Omar
