During install process, at the "Detection" stage, a message is displayed to shut down the following running and suspended machines: Microsoft Windows XP. Unfortunately, because v3 will not run on Snow Leopard, I am not able to run Parallels in order to shut down the the virtual machine. Is there an alternative method to shutting down this VM without using Parallels?
Me Too Rick, I'm having the exact same problem; your description is precisely what I am experiencing. I hope someone can help.
Inside the old virtual machine folder look for any files that ends with am extension .mem or .sav and delete them and then try to run the installation. Salamat
I found the solution buried in this website. You need to rename the folder that holds your VM. It's /documents/Parallels; rename it "Parallels 3" or something similar. Then install Parallels 4.0, then move contents of "Parallels 3" to the new "Parallels" folder and run Parallels 4.0 The next step is also poorly documented. Launch Parallels 4.0, and ignore and close the big box that shows up with three choices. Pull down the File menu and choose Open and open the VM file and then Parallels 4.0 will convert your old VM and everything will work fine. I spent an hour figuring this crap out. 90% of upgrading users are going to have the problem.
