    Hi,

This is probably very simple but I can't do it!!

I am using Parallels 4.0 and have windows XP running on my login. I installed it with the option of allowing other mac users to access it. The Virtual Machine was installed in users/shared/ etc.

When I login as a second user on the iMac and start Parallels Desktop its asking me to install a virtual machine. How can I set it up so all the users use the XP VM that I set up?

    Regards Charlie.

    I hope I don't have to reinstall

Charlie, I have the same issue. I read the book after I installed and apparently, there is some option buried in either the custom or typical install that you have to select. I've tried going through all the "configure" options and nowhere is there an option to change. I tried moving what I thought was the virtual machine to the shared folder and that didn't work.

If there is no solution here soon, I'll go through deleting the virtual machine I have and trying again. Sounds like Windows all over again.

OK I.ve sorted this. Well nearly!!

I logged on as the second user and on the top menu I simply went to File then Open and located the VM on the hard drive. Which was loacate in the users/parallels folder. Simples!

My only problem now is that when I am logged on and the VM is running if you switch users they cant access the VM is gives errors saying its in use. I go back to my logon and that gives similar errors!! The only way to re start the VM is to re boot the iMac.

Is that normal or should more than one user be able to log onto the machine at the same time?

    Shared Users...

I think here are two different questions:

1: How to make sure that different users on one mac can work with Parallels and Windows.
First of all it's necessary to tick the option for 'shared use'. But sometimes it does not work even though it has been ticked. So under following link there is a solution for this problem: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5733

    2. Can more than one user simultanously access Parallels and Windows.
    I think no, but I don't know.

    regards, Otto

    Thanks for the replies.

I have gotten both users now able to use the VM but not at the same time. One has got to exit parallels before the other can use it. I'm sure that I can live with that. After all my mac is the main OS thats why I got rid of my PC!

    Thanks again.
