Have cleaned up MacBook, deleted apps, upgraded all remaining apps ready for Snow Leopard. Last thing to do - Parallels.

Got the hal.dll which I fixed using boot.ini rebuild.

Now machine boots to splash screen and freezes after a few seconds - this happens whether I boot via BootCamp or Parallels. I have tried going into Manual Mode at boot but the splash screen ends up coming up and freezing.

Everytime I upgrade Parallels this happens - hours and hours of trawling through forums and help desks, delving into terminals and set up screens, endless restarting ... surely it shouldn't be this hard EVERY time?

Anyway, where to next when frozen on splash screen?

    Many thanks

Well, the installation eventually went ahead. Left it overnight to complete step 2, which, of course, it didn't. So restarted it and apparently it had completed it but it got stuck again.

Various things like starting in Safe Mode, running through the Disk Error Checking have happened - no more errors but neither does any step actually complete without my intervention. I have had to go into manual mode a few times to rescue it from a freeze and restart it and it just appears to start where it left off.

It now appears to have completed. This is a very weird installation process. It's like holding a child's hand crossing the road. Not sure where the issue lies but I am not a novice and yet I have absolutely no idea how this thing actually got installed.

    But at least it did.
