Okay...currently running Parallels v3.0. Purchased Apple's Snow Leopard and v3.0 is not compatible. Went and purchased the upgrade to v4.0. Now I'm stuck......

When I originally purchased my iMac last year, my installation configuration went like this -

    * Partitioned HD with Boot Camp
    * Installed WinXP on that partition
    * Installed Parallels and selected the Boot Camp partition to start up

Now when I'm trying to upgrade to v4.0 it takes me up to the point of saying that I have to shut down the running and suspended virtual machines. How do I do that and will I lose the date that is currently on that partitioned XP drive?

Big thanks in advance for anyone who can help me get past this snag.

Nevermind - been playing with this stuff for the last 24 hours. I finally have Parallels working with XP.

Now....my only problem is, when Parallels starts up, it asks which Windows stuff to use.
My choices are: Windows XP Professional or Parallels configuration.

I can't get beyond that without letting the timer run out and then Windows boots. How can I stop it from hanging at that screen and logging directly into Windows?

Okay, I'm helping myself as I go along here.

The secret to getting that boot from which system is taken care of by editing the BOOT.INI file in Windows.

Hope all of my anxiety over installing Snow Leopard and updating to Parallels v4.0 is helping someone else out there who is going through the same process. My words of advice - keep playing around and finally you will be successful! Some of the issues are Windows and it helped me tremendously by going to Microsoft and searching through the Knowledge base for answers.

In a later post you say you got it running. Can you tell us how you sorted it? I've seen a few posts where people are in the same situation and you may be able to help them.

    Manually upgrade???

Halfway through the installation, I get this message:

You need to manually continue the upgrade process. To continue with the upgrade, log in to your Windows virtual machine. If you have the CD autorun option enabled, the upgrade will resume automatically. Otherwise, open My Computer and run the setup.exe file located on your CD, ignoring any Windows messages. For more information on upgrading your virtual machines, visit the upgrade page on the Parallels website.

Of course, every potential action on the Parallels interface is grayed out and none of the sources for installation support have the answer?

I am having the same problem. I upgraded to OS 10.6 and then tried to upgrade to parallels desktop 4.0 and it tells me I have to shut down the suspended virtual machine, but I can't open parallels version 3.0 in OS 10.6. How did you get around this?
    Appreciate any suggestions.
