If I have Parallels hard drive space setup as expandable up to 100 GB, but am only using 17 GB in Windows, why is my .pvm file showing 52 GB in size. Is this normal? Seems as though it's eating up a lot more space than needed for now. Ran the Parallels Image tool and compacted the HD, but still the same.
Check that there are no snapshots (should have been merged though). And, more importantly, try using Parallels Compressor then: http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/22264.htm
Running the Parallels Compressor worked. I went from 52 GB down to 18 GB. How often should I run those programs (Compressor, and/or Image Tool Compact)? Thanks for your help.
Compacting with Parallels Image Tool does work most of the times, but in some cases disk needs to defragmented, that is what done with Parallels Compressor. It is suggested to run these tools from time to time only, i.e. if you feel the machine performance has dropped or, as in your case, there is too much space used.
Compressor Should I ever use the Windows system tools to defrag the hard drive within the VM, or should I only use the Parallels Compressor? Thanks again for your help
