Hi - I get a strange error when installing Windows 7 RTM on a brand new VM.

It gets as far as the setup screen, where I can choose my Language, Time & Currency Format, Keyboard or Input method and then 'Install Now' on the following screen. I get a message saying "Setup is starting...", then there's a bit of a delay with the spinning donut, then I get:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

I'm installing straight from an .iso

    Anybody have any ideas?

    Hello,

Try to create a new Virtual Machine and try installing with that or download the .iso image again and then try to install.

    Ditto

Tinkered with the install (tried Windows Server 2008 as well as W7 Experimental Mode) to find no glory.

Already planned on downloading the RTM build again from MS tonight, but doubtful that is the culprit unless MS released a bad ISO. May try installing to a Windows box I have here to see if a bare metal build works (if it does then the ISO is assumed safe).

OK well I downloaded another copy of the .iso from MSDN and this appears to have worked properly this time. Bit wierd that something like this would have happened though, isn't it?

    Ditto for me

Downloaded a second copy of the ISO and life is good.

    Odd.
