I just bought a new MacBook Pro, I loaded Parallels onto my computer and then when I tried loading Windows XP I got stuck at the Licensing page. I tried everything and tried holding down the Fn key and F8 etc. Nothing worked so unfortunately I had to cancel out of it. Then I tried to load it again and then when I start up the Virtual Machine it only gets to a black screen with saying the software name, all rights reserved. It doesnt get past that. I uninstalled and then reinstalled parallels and nothing changed. then I tried creating an image for Windows XP instead of using the cd rom and still the same black page shows up. I dont know what to do. Please Help.
What version of Windows are you trying to install? The Retail Version (Full), the Retail Version (Upgrade), the OEM version (full or upgrade?)? Also, I don't have a MacBook Pro, but I understand from these forums that there are specific issues with the MacBook Pro that require you to download a different release of Parallels than the one that comes in the box. Search the forums on MacBook Pro and that may point you to a solution. Good luck.
It sounds like in canceling out (I assume you killed the VM) that you corrupted the VM files. I would delete them and re-create the Windows XP VM. Then as you are installing: Make sure you click your mouse in the VM window. This transfers mouse and keyboard input to the VM. When XP gets to the license page then Fn-F8 should work. Just starting Parallels DOES NOT transfer mouse/keyboard into the VM. You must click in it. When you've done it successfully (if the Windows GUI is up) then you should be able to move the mouse. To get back to your primary OS I believe you CTRL-ALT... I could be wrong on that as I have not done it in some time. After XP is installed then you do VM->Install Parallels Tools to get automatic mouse/keyboard synching.
Thanks Wow - thank you so much. I created a new VM and it worked. hopefully I will be able to figure out the rest from here.
I've got a MB Pro, have installed Parallels, and am trying to install XP. I click inside the VM window to agree to the M$ agreement by hitting fn-F8 and get a gray screen from mac os- how is this possible?!? Please help!
What build of Parallels are you using? If it's less than 1970, that's your problem. Start Parallels, and tell it to check for updates. It will download 1970. Install that and try the install again. Early boxed versions of Parallels were not compatible with core 2 duo machines. Posting your exact configuration and Parallels build will get you more focused help.
Yeah - I'm running build 1940 - I'll grab the update & try again. Sorry for the lack of info. Thx for the quick response - I thought I'd have to wait until tomorrow.
