This may sound stupid to most of you but I have just started using Parallels with Win Xp Home SP2 and can't seem to figure out hw to start the Congruence mode!

You need to run the virtual machine in a window on the Mac - and it only works for Windows. At the top of the screen there should be a Parallels control bar. In the 'View' menu select 'Coherence'. In my version it is the first selection. If you don't see it then you may be running a non-beta version that does not have coherence mode available. If you are running the original boxed version of parallels or the patched version 1970 then coherence is not available. Before running the version 3106 Beta 3 code you may wish to hold off for a bit until you better understand your new tool. The beta version may trash your system.

DKP is correct about Coherence not being included in the 1970 build, which is the boxed distribution set; and he raises an issue re: using the beta releases which needs to be considered before just "diving in". However, my two cents worth is that Parallels was of no practical use to me UNTIL beta 3106. It seems that the majority of difficulties re: 3106 arise either in conjunction with the use of Boot Camp and/or in migrating from a prior installation of Parallels. If you are not using Boot Camp CONCURRENTLY on the same system and if 3106 is a new installation of your system then I would expect you to have little problem.

But I've been known to be wrong so do check all of the other relevant entires on the forum.

Well put - it probably belongs in the FAQ.

    Many Thanks

A million thanks for your prompt answers. I was feeling nuts after going thru each and every option. Yes I do hve a boxed version and amm not running boot camp.
And definitely I would wait till the bugs in beta version are fixed, as you can see I am quite limited in my capabilities:rolleyes:
    Thanks again for your time

If you really have "just started" with Parallels then you might find it worthwhile to try the 3106 -- if you want to use Coherence and also have some USB2.0 support. If that seems appealing, my suggestion FWIW would be to completely remove your current installation of Parallels, download the latest beta and do a complete clean install of Paralles. Then install XP Home. I've done installs of both Home and Pro at this point and found both pretty straightforward -- when I followed the directions!

Just be aware that 3106 has destroyed some people's systems resulting in the need for a full re-install. Your call, of course, but do be careful and read all the posts here that address it's up and down sides. That is to say, make an informed decision.
