I seem to have to re-install Parallels Tools in my XP (Parallels running under Leopard) every time I boot into XP. The mouse is always captured. What can I do to make Parallels Tools stick?
One possible reason could be that Windows run automatically mounted CD each time it boots: http://kb.parallels.com/en/4804 If this is not the case, I would suggest to reinstall the Tools the way it is described in the following article: http://kb.parallels.com/en/4841 Also, if this is Parallels 4.0, check under Add/Remove programs whether there are any previous versions of Parallels Tools present. You can also check if there are any exclamation marks in the device manager (Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager ). An antivirus software might also be preventing Parallels Tools to istall. For an older Parallels Desktop versions, the following article might come to be useful: http://kb.parallels.com/en/4945
OK, using the Add/Remove program under Windows doesn't work. Trying that hardware Device manager now.
The above fixes failed to work. I am using build 4.0.3844. At this stage, the mouse will not uncapture with parallels, I cannot drag files from the Mac to the Windows desktop and indeed I cannot resize the Windows desktop. All of these things I USED to be able to do. I have looked at the "automatically mounted CD" and there simply is no "Default CD/DVD" option i the CD/DVD menu. I have tried to use the " Add/Remove programs control panel" and I get a "fatal error" when trying to uninstall Parallels tools. I have tried to use the Device Manager, and successfully removed the Parallels Tools, but that still has not fixed the problem. So right now I am very much stuck and this is very inconvenient. Evidently I am not the only one who is having persistent problems with Parallels Tools. Please help.
Please? I am reduced to using a tiny window for XP and functionality is nothing like what it used to be. I need a fix for this.
I have reinstalled Parallels. Then I opened my XP hard disc. Then I reinstalled Parallels Tools. No joy.
As I understood, there are no Parallels Tools of a previous version present in Add/Remove programs? In that case, can you send us a report via Parallels menu -> Help -> Report a problem? It is important to post here the report ID so that we would be able to check it. Once you get the report ID, please, post it here.
Checking right now. No, there is no previous version present in "Add/Remove programs". I am trying once more to install the tools. It installed, and it restarted, and now I can see it in "Add/Remove programs" but there is no Parallels Tools functionality. The Bug Report ID is 371591.
Judging from the report, all the Tools are installed correctly, but something still might be messing the things up. From that point, I would suggest to make a support request here, it is free and that way we would be able to see what is wrong directly. Do not forget to include the Problem Report ID, this would help to speed up the process.
