I have a legit copy of parallels desktop 4.0 for mac. however, i have been having so many problems installing it (the hardcopy book has a lot of outdated/missing info. (for example, book says reboot screen will come up - NOT!). i downloaded the trial version.

my question: with the downloaded trial version, are all the add-in software, particularly the security software and parallel tools automatically installed too?? during software install, in very small print, it said parallels tools was not loaded and to load...(couldn't see the rest because of little icons of a keyboard and some other things). (i did not want to touch or disturb the install since i have been trying to get this on for more than 3 hours, now 4 hours.) i didn't see any of these apps in my application folder. in a 2008 parallels version, i think i remember it showed tools as a separate application.

also, anyone know how to remove the multiple version of windows xp pro (or icons?) i have in the virtual machine??

i am a 2 day old convert from pc so forgive me if questions are elementary. thanks

Actually, as long as you have a license key there is no need for trial software. You did not mention the Parallels version, so I would assume this is Parallels Desktop 4.0.

    1. To get the latest possible version of Parallels Desktop you can download it from our site:
    http://www.parallels.com/download/desktop/
This is not a trial version, this is a full one and all you might need is to use your license key to activate it.

    2. The latest documentation is also available on our site:
    http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/pd40_docs/

    3. To install Parallels Tools all you need is to click the Install Parallels Tools option from the Virtual Machine menu.
    http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/22575.htm

    4. To install Parallels Internet Security all you need is to click install Parallels Internet Security (if Tools are already installed) from the Virtual Machine menu.
    http://kb.parallels.com/en/5669

And as for "multiple version of windows xp pro" I am not entirely sure what are you refferring to, would it be possible to attach a screenshot?

i will try again per your posts as soon as time machine backup completes. i did manage to get rid of 2 of the multiple xp versions (prolly still have orphaned files, but still have remaining xp and xp3 copies. when i was on a pc, i could easily get you a copy of what i mean, however, being new to a mac i have to figure out with existing mac tools on how i can do that. timewise, my back is really up against the wall cause i have to get to IE so i can get work done before i go away tomorrow morning (no access to computer, just email)

i really hate to 'junk up' this computer just installing parallels and xp pro. i haven't even loaded any required win software yet.

thanks for your timely response. it makes a difference on whether to stay or go to another product.

i am a bit confused...below (if it lets me paste here) is what i downloaded...it's a trial copy -- it does not contain the security software nor tools. i downloaded this last nite but didn't bother with trial key. when installing it did not ask me for a key.

when i find out where the real new full version is to download, can i just install on top or will i need to remove existing trial version and windows xp before installing full copy??

when i downloaded the 'trial' (see prev post), since all other attempts had failed, i did an express install. here's what i have in my app folder involving parallels.

one parallel folder has: desktop, p. explorer, p. image tool, p. transporter. the other icon in apps folder is parallel desktop.

so, do i have parallel tools or not? i really need to get the security on before i attempt access to IE. i don't see anything in app or parallel file referring to any type of security.

First of all, there is no such thing as a trial version, only a trial license key. So, the Parallels you have now is a full version. The one you have downloaded - you can freely reinstall it using the downloaded package. Using the package you can do both - uninstall previous version and install latest.

What you see in Parallels folder is various additional tools. The security you need is a Parallels Internet Security based on Kaspersky, you need to install it inside the virtual machine. In other words, first you create virtual machine, then you install Windows in it, then you install Parallels tools (in Windows) and then you install Parallels Internet Security (in Windows).
The documentation above does provide a complete instructions on how to do this.

Would someone from the Parallels Team, or an experienced Parallels user be able to help me?
I just downloaded the Parallels Desktop 10 trial Version 10.0.2 (27712), so that I could run Windows 8.1.1.

I see tutorials are mentioning to download Parallels tools through the Virtual Machine menu, but in my trial version, I see no such Virtual Machine tab on the menu bar. Is this because I have the trial version?

I was able to get this whole set up by downloading the trial for parallels and windows.

    Thank you.
