I recently purchased a new MBP and transferred the contents of my old MBP. Most all of the new applications have opened without a problem, but Parallels gives me an error message that it "quit unexpectedly" when it actually never launched! I upgraded to Parallels v.4 in Nov '08 and have that activation #, but do I need to reinstall v. 3.0 and then upgrade again? When I look at Parallels under my applications folder, it is indicating that it occupies 24.1 MB on my disk, so it must still be there. Any suggestions?
It is actually still not very clear. If you have upgraded to Parallels 4.0 and it is currently up and running then Parallels 3.0 should have been automatically uninstalled when you performed the upgrade. And if Parallels 4.0 has not been installed yet then you can either uninstall 3.0 version, the following article is useful for a complete uninstall: http://kb.parallels.com/en/4709 or you can simply upgrade to 4.0 and 3.0 version would be removed automatically.
Clarification Version 4 was running on my old MBP, but it will not open on my new MBP, even though it is listed under my Applications folder (on the new MBP) with a 24.1 MB file size. Highlighting the Parallels application v.4 under my Applications folder also shows that it was last opened today, but it did not open-it gave an error message that it "unexpectedly quit". So my question remains, since I upgraded to version 4 in Nov '08 (by receiving an upgrade license # online on the old MBP), and version 3 no longer exists in my new MBP Applications folder, do I need to re-install version 3 on the new MBP, download a copy of version 4 and then use the activation # that was sent to me for the upgrade? I don't know how I can make this sound any simpler and I apologize if it is confusing, but I just want my Parallels back!! HELP!!
If there is no Parallels 3.0 anymore on the Mac there is definitely no need to uninstall it. In any case, I would suggest to just download the latest build of Parallels 4.0 from the link below and use it to reinstall Parallels. That should be sufficient. http://www.parallels.com/download/desktop/
