I cannot run Autodesk 3ds MAX 2010, program initializes, opens showing the four windows, pauses, and virtual machine abruptly closes. Any advise appreciated. Running: Parallels Desktop Build 4.0.3810, using 3D acceleration selected MAC Pro Desktop, OS 10.4.11, 2x2.66 GHz Dual Core, 3GB RAM Virtual Machine: Windows XP with all service packs Thank you.
Set it to run with DirectX instead of OpenGL. I've only had experience with the 2010 series with DWG TrueView 2010, I run the machine on both boot camp and parallels. 2009 worked fine, when I upgraded it did what you're saying in Parallels, so I booted in bootcamp and changed the hardware acceleration to DirectX, and it worked.
Thanks for the info. I tried this, and now instead of parallels closing, just MAX closes as it's starting up...
thanks for the info. I tried it and now instead of parallels closing, just MAX closes as it starts up - still won't run - maybe a 2010 / parallels compatibility issue?
Are you using PDM 4? (Just a correction, I said DirectX, but what I meant was Direct 3D, for hardware acceleration).
The response is a little late, but I believe this issue is due to a new setup that Autodesk is using in their Flex licesing services. I've notice with both Revit and ADR 2010 that once you open the program, then close it, reopening the software causes a crash. I believe this is because Flex is able to obtain the first license but then is either not releasing the license or causing some other catastrophic failure in the VM to cause it to crash. My experience is that the VM itself crashes when I try to reopen any of the 2010 Autodesk softwares. This happens in both Parallels and VMWare Fusion.
I have found this to happen also with Revit and ADR 2010. My belief is that it is an issue with the new FLEX licensing that Autodesk is using for their 2010 products as the crashes only occur after the initial program open. I can open both Revit and ADR a first time (and even open new instances of the application once the first instance is open). However, as soon as I close the first instance of the application and try to open a new instance, this is when the VM crashes. Either FLEX is not releasing the license and causing interferences that the VM can not handle or there is some deeper bug that is at work here.
