I'm migrating hard drives on my macbook pro and want to deactivate parallels desktop so I can install it on the new hard drive, how can I do that? Thanks!
Hello Mikey, You can use Parallels Desktop on your new hard drive without any problem. Just install the Parallels Desktop and enter the activation key, you can start working on it. But Parallels Desktop software can be used on one computer at a time only. As of now there is no option as "deactivation" of Parallels.
New Computer Is it the same for a new laptop? The old one will pass to someone else. I should uninstall from the old one and install on the new one and activate with the same key. No need to deactivate from the old one?
joevt - I too am trying to migrate to a new computer - and keep my existing virtual machines. can you clarify the steps? eg how do I uninstall parallels/where? I dont see an uninstaller program in my parallels folder. When I tried to enter my existing license code for parallels (v4 by the way) on my new laptop it says its already in use (on my old laptop).
by the way, as a follow up, I bought a license code for parallels v5 and was planning to upgrade to it in my new laptop. Will it "uninstall and deactivate" the v4 license when I do that so I can keep it on a laptop also?
On the Parallels Desktop install disk image is an Uninstall app. If you want to do it manually or verify that it uninstalled everything, read How To Remove Parallels Desktop 4 Completely: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5714 How To Remove Parallels Desktop 5 Completely: http://kb.parallels.com/en/6904 Did you stop running Parallels on your old laptop before trying to enter the licence on the new laptop? Try turning the old laptop off and restarting the new laptop, then enter the license code. To upgrade to Parallels Desktop 5, read How can I upgrade to Parallels Desktop 5: http://kb.parallels.com/en/6851 Installing Parallels Desktop 5 will uninstall any older version. If you bought an upgrade license key, then you're not allowed to keep using the old Parallels Desktop 4 license key on a different Mac.
