I apologize if this is being discussed elsewhere. I am running Windows XP on Parallels on a Mac. I have been using it without problems for some time. Today I accepted software updates to the mac and shutdown the paralelled windows. When I restarted the computer, the windows could no longer find an internet connection. The Explorer diagnostics could not find a connection and suggested checking cables, etc. However, the mac side of things was and is still able to connect without a problem. Can anyone help? Again I apologize if this question is agonizingly elementary. My skillz are very limited and I don't even know where to go for support. Thanks in advance
Hello Michael Root, First of all please try switch from shared networking to bridged Ethernet or from Bridged Ethernet to Shared Networking (Configure-> network Adapter 1) In case that does not help please Parallels Desktop menu-> Parallels Desktop -> Prefernces-> Network-> restore defaults. To create ticket for Parallels Support tEam please visit our online support form (please note that you need register first):https://www.parallels.com/support/desktop/request/
Hi, thank you for the response. I'm very unsure of what I am doing, so please bear with me. I cannot seem to switch to bridging the connection. When I right-click on the local area connection icon, one of the choices is 'bridge connections'. But when I select that option I am told that I cannot do this, that I must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing. I do not know how to do this. In regards to the other suggested option, the option to restore defaults does not appear in my Parallels network preferences pane. The only options available are to enable DHCP scope for host-only networking and / or to enable DHCP scope for shared networking. Both options are enabled, and both include a set of IP and DNS numbers. When I try to repair the existing local area connection, I am told that I cannot receive an IP address from the adapter. If you have any more information I welcome it. Unfortunately I seem to have long-ago misplaced my license key. Thanks.
Hello Michael Root, Can you please clarify what version of Parallels Desktop is installed on the Mac (Parallels Desktop -> about Parallels Desktop) In case it is version 2.x: the last should be 3224 (in case you have newer version please download the 3224) http://www.parallels.com/en/download/file/en/GA/Parallels-Desktop-3224-Mac-en.dmg Double click on the icon and follow installaton Wizard, Parallels Desktop installation detectes that Parallels has been already installed and would perform the upgrade, after that please start VM -> Parallels Tools shoul dbe automatically installed, or you may install it manually (Actions -> Install parallels Tools) After that please stop your Virtual machine -> Parallels Desktop Menu -> Edit-> Virtual Machine -> and try to switch from shared networkin to bridged ethernet (in should not be done from Virtual machine) In case you have Parallels Desktop 3.0 the last build is 5626: http://download.parallels.com/v3/en/GA/Parallels-Desktop-5626-Mac-en.dmg And perform the upgrade as written above -> stop your Virtual machine -> Parallels Desktop Menu -> Edit-> Virtual Machine -> and try to switch from shared networkin to bridged ethernet (in should not be done from Virtual machine) Also please check: Parallels Desktop Mneu-> Preferences-> Network-> enabel DHCP scope for shared Networking Also please send us the output: in VM: Start -> run-> cmd-> type there: ipconfig /all ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew please restart VM and check network once again.
Thanks, I had the same problem, was on Shared Networking and clicked Bridged Ethernet and now it works again. Probably went out the same day as Michael, so maybe it was a Windows auto update? Don't ask me why or what it means but I very much appreciate the support on this site.
