I am running build 5608 and have failed at least 3 times trying to install build 5626. The installation appears to be working as the first part goes fine. Then it does something else and hangs again. The check for updates never returns a request to do a newer build. I am running an intel imac and have no external drives. I just have a time capsule. I am running parallels 3 on my bootcamp partition.

I am having the same experience as Teksura and others are having <http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=32775>

Maybe I will redownload the update and try again. It is odd that the automatic update does not work, as if it knows that 5626 is toxic.

Btw, my 5608 build is working fine.

I did download another copy of 5626. Here's the good news: it installed successfully. Here's the really bad news: now Parallels won't start at all. I don't know what to do, other than time machine back to 5608.

    More bad news

I uninstalled parallels. I repaired permissions and did all the terminal removing that was recommended, followed by more permissions and restarting. I installed parallels from my original v.3 cd - it is version 4128. It took a long time for parallels to install. It finally did and now it CRASHES on launch. Here is an excerpt of the log:

    Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000
    Crashed Thread: 1

    The full log is attached.

This is starting to become a nightmare.

    Reason? Me?

I installed the old build thinking that I had to: that since I removed the application completely, that I had to start from scratch. I assumed that 5626 required a prior installation - that it was an update. It didn't occur to me that I could start immediately from build 5626. I will try installing 5626 now and if that fails, I will go through the whole nine yards again and try again with just 5626.

I see. Yes, there is no need to install the application from an old CD, you can install any Parallels Desktop build using only such .dmg file

    Mission Accomplished

It probably took way longer than necessary, but I now have successfully updated to build 5626.

    Thanks for all the help.
