I am running Windows XP as a Guest OS in Parallels 4.0, built 4.0.3810. I have a Mac Pro with 4 CPUs and 16 GB of RAM. Here are my issues: 1. Since upgrading from Parallels 3 to Parallels 4 XP has run very slow. It's causing many problems. For example, I can no longer record decent sound with my Fast Track external USB microphone, which worked flawlessly for months under Parallels 3. Since I am in the online e-learning business, this has shut down my development. 2. Files saved to my desktop in XP do not appear. They seem to be hidden beneath icons from the Mac OS desktop. They are completely inaccessible via point and click. 3. Several folders do not appear. These include the my pictures and other "my" folders. My Documents hasn't disappeared yet. 4. Kaspersky slows XP
Tucson Tom, 1) Try http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=21388 The tips are for Parallels Desktop 3, but are valid here too, except for memory, which you can set to 1 Gb or more freely. Also, check your paging file size, it should at least be the size of memory allocated to the virtual machine. 2) Please provide a screenshot of this, so that we understand better. 3) Disable Shared Profile in Configuration. 4) This is expected behaviour, as anti-viruses usually slow done the system.
I received a call from a lady with Parallels support. She made a number of changes and cleared up my problems. I was very impressed that Parallels would spend the time it took to get my system up to speed, which was considerable. For now, the system is working properly and I'm not going to touch anything in the VM configuration.
