I am running a Windows Vista VM under Parallels Desktop v4 on my MacBook pro, which needs to go in for repair. I'm going to need to run the VM for about a week on a different machine, and al we have available are PCs. I have Parallels Workstation 2.2 installed on a PC. My question is, can I run the V4 VM on the 2.2 host?

    Hello,

Before doing anything with virtual disk please back it up to have reserve copy:

    Please note:
It is highly recommended to uninstall Parallels Tools prior to moving data to another product.

    Common steps

    1. Stop Virtual machine
    2. Navigate to folder where Virtual machine pvm bundle is located
    3. Right click on pbm bundle - select "Show Package Contents", new Finder window will open with content of bundle
    4. We need bundle with hdd extension, right click on hdd bundle - select "Show Package Contents"
new Finder window will open with content of bundle
    5. Copy hds file from inside bundle to new location
    Please note:
File name may be long and not intuitive, like
    windowsxp.hdd.0.{5fbaabe3-6958-40ff-92a7-860e329aab41}.hds
You can rename it to more meaningful name like
    windowsxp.hds
And please not you need to change extension from hds to hdd
    6. You have now plain virtual disk file ready to be imported to another products

To import virtual disk to Parallels Desktop version 3

    1. Start Parallels Image Tool
    2. Select prepared disk
    3. Select Convert to New format

After that please try to apply the article: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5048
