I have just installed Parallels, and am attempting to configure it to work with an existing Bootcamp Windows installation. Everything appeared to go fine (I had to manually launch setup.exe when it opened windows, but it said this is normal), but it has had a full progress bar for about two hours and shows no sign of stopping. The status message says "Installing the latest version of Parallels Tools (Step 4 of 4)...".

The program seems to be responsive (I plugged in a usb mouse, and it asked me whether to load it in OSX or the VM), but the configuration is not finishing. When I attempt to quit the program, it tells me the configuration is in progress, and I should wait until it completes. Any ideas what might be going on, and how I could fix it? If I do manually quit and start it again, will this cause problems?

    Thanks.

    Hi seidaku,

If the Parallels tools installation takes more time.
Restart your Mac and When your Mac is up the installation would be completed successfully.
You can start using Parallels Desktop.

    Also you may press

"Control -Command-Option -R" buttonts and you will enter manual mode, in manual mode yu may try to install Parallels Tools once agaian (Virtual Machine -> install Parallels Tools or Device -> CD-DVD ROM-> connect image -> Machintosh HD-> Library-> Parallels -> Tools -> prl_tools_win.iso)

RESOLVED - Vista was blocked by UAC

I had this same issue and found this post. Thanks for the suggestion to "Control-Command-Option-R" for manual mode. That was a required for me to get past this "frozen" install. Once in manual mode, the issue was clear.

My Vista Boot Camp partition was hung up on a UAC prompt. I did not recognize a driver that Parallels was installing. I manually accepted the driver install, and was subsequently prompted with about 6 more UAC prompts for various drivers... I accepted each.

Then the install completed without further issue and the VM of my Vista Boot Camp partition rebooted itself and works great.

Thanks for the tip! I hope this helps someone else through this same hurdle.
