After installing Parallels and Windows XP Home Edition and installing Parallels Tools I have designated files for sharing but cannot access them once in Windows. There is no icon on the desktop and when I use Windows Explorer to try to find the .psf none shows up. Installed Parallels on an iMac5,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Parellels is the Build 1970 (November 1, 2006). Has anyone else had this problem? What is the solution?
Yes I had a LOT of problems with shared files during this install. I now have it working after about 24 hours of messing around with it. In my case I had the shortcut on the desktop but it wouldn't allow me to access the shared folders. I was getting access violations. However here is what I found. During the installation of the Parallels Tools the system crashed (blue screen) and was never right after. I finally did a full uninstall of the tools and then reinstalled with networking disconnected, since that was where it seemed to crash on me at time. This seems to have been the key. Conversations with a couple colleagues indicated htat others have stumbled on this as well in previous builds where the tools install would crash unless you disconnect networking. So I would say give that a try. Try and clean things up completely (you may even want to revert back to 3036 to do this), and then when doing the first install disconnect networking and install the tools. Good luck.
