Hello. Im really frustrated regarding the USB problem many of us are having ussing parallels. I dont know if it is a core2 duo problem. I would like to start this discussion here in order to have as many suggestions as possible. Maybe the paralles team could take time to visit this forums and mention to the users what is going on!! Virgilio
Good idea. I imagine Parallels is fully aware of USB problems, they just don't seem to like to communicate.
This one has been discussed on the forums many times already. You might try a search. The bottom line is that this will not be resolved until they have full USB passthrough support. That probably won't happen until the next full version release (a long time).
have a new MacBook Pro , it is the 2 DUO 2.1. 2 Gig Ram . I could not get my USB sticks or Ipod to work with XP , was keep getting the now famous 5-10 sec Error. So I followed the suggestion by a user on this site that suggested to the followings. At the terminal type kexstat and see the last line then Plug in the stick and type in the same command kexstat and see the last or couple of commands before last and you should see the line says com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass Then add the following line at the terminal sudo kextunload -b com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass This will release the driver on the Mac side so you can use it on the windows side. It is none destuctive and next time you restart your Mac will reload the driver. This is a temperary soulotion untill Paralles comes up with a perm one.
My flash memory devices work fine in Parallels. 1) Start the VM, making sure USB autoconnect is on. 2) Insert flash device. 3) Use flash device in VM.
thanks for the advice. I followed PEYMON sugestion but I have a question: after I type "sudo kextunload -b com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass" a new line appears at the termina asking for a password. What do I do aftter this?? Im sorry, but can you give me the details?? Thank you a lot Virgilio
Oh be careful Virgilio, you don't want Mr. perfect hhwong to come down on you. Saying that Parallels don't owe you anything, despite paying for their product. I disgress. However SERIOUSLY, Parallels is quite aware of this problem and they're working on it. Hopefully early next year they're going to have a free or an inexpensive upgrade that has USB 2.0 and better playthrough so you can burn CDs in your VMs.
Just click on the USB controller in Parallels' console before your other OS starts and select the autoconnect.
my (4 different) usb-sticks work perfectly under parallels on my macbook core 1 (!) 1.83 and don´t work on my companys macbook core 2 (!) 1.83... ("5 to 10 sec"-msg)??? i even used the same virtual-machine-file (*.pvs) plus the same version of parallels (1970) i´ve tried everything that i read in this forum... nothing worked for me... my company bought the book and parallels after my advice and after i tried everything out on my macbook... how awkward - for me and for parallels... has anyone an idea what to do? or does anyone want to trade a macbook versus a working pc-laptop greetings from cologne, germany mee4u
USB works with build 1848 I use an usb rfid reader for a showcase. This usb device works under parallels buil 1848 but none of the later ones : there it fails with the usal try again error ...
hello , Yes go to the Utilities folder in Mac os x , then to Net info manager, then on the top menu Secrity and then click authinticate and then choose a root password and then when you enter the SU command it will ask you for that root password , eneter it and then you are good to-go.
what is the terminal?? how do I access it? I'm not sure how to access the "terminal" you guys refer to in order to temporarily release the USB and be able to use it in XP.
Terminal is an application in your /Applications/Utilities folder. Double click it there to start it. That said, if you don't know what you are doing in terminal and access it as root or using sudo, you can render your Mac unbootable or otherwise damage the system to the point where you may need to reinstall OSX. In Windows, you need to be careful editing the registry. In OSX, you need to be careful with terminal, especially if you grant yourself privileges. If you back up your entire hard disk, you can always get it back. I use terminal, and follow the "Think twice, act once" philosophy, sort of like the carpenter's rule: Measure twice, cut once.
kextstat route not working for me In my case I was trying to get my PDA talking again, yes again because it worked without any problems before but the latest build seems to have issues and I no longer have the old installer. I tried your kextstat sollution, Windows started talking to USB and then crapped out. I have tried it a few times again but could not get it working.
